why do the pages look the way they do?

i hope that absolutely no explanation is necessary.
-
capitalization
-
in english, as well as many other modern languages, we capitalize the
first letter of certain words to denote them as signifiers of special
objects or concepts. in the modern American culture in which elliot
lives, the organization seems to be much more powerful than the individual.
elliot capitalizes the names of organizations, locals, and abbreviations
necessary. individuals, being deemed "inconsequential" to the functioning
of the capitalist machine, are represented by all lowercase letters.

colour
-
the world is no longer a world of black and white. colour can
be used to bring attention to things that the artist.designer.author would
like to call to attention. animals are, by their nature, habitual
beasts. we, as a subset of all animals, are also habitual.
i chose the colours of the links on my pages to reinforce the habitual
nature of man. most of the western world is dependent on automobiles,
and therefore associates the colour red with stop and the colour
green with go. not one to shake the boat, i chose to use green
to encourage the viewer to explore the roads less traveled down.
the title atop the page is blue, a colour that has been appearing more
and more often in my life. it, along with the green used in the titles
along the right side of the site, is a soothing colour.
-
spelling
-
the fascinations with British spellings and all things not American
represent my (constant) search for things good in the world. just
because one is American doesn't mean that one can't cast aside American
popular culture structures and embrace other belief systems, as well as
forms of artistic expression. if popular modern cultural publications
are correct, (which i often doubt) with the birth of the internet and the
increasing communication possibilities, we have entered a global world.

i chose the colours of the links on my pages to reinforce the habitual
nature of man. unfollowed links are only slightly different
in colour to the raw text. if it weren't for link underlining in
modern browsers, it would take active searching to find unfollowed links
in my pages. followed links are green, making habitual [re]visiting
of sites more likely. in my experience, green has always represented
"go safely," and, indeed, this is the message that i would like to give
to viewers of the site. when links are selected, their colour changes
to red. red is a colour that is often used to say stop, and
it sends a mixed, somewhat confusing signal to the viewer. they are
told to stop, when they obviously have chosen to go.
